Violinist Francisco Fullana Performs for Bedford Chamber Concerts Gala Season Finale

Bedford Chamber Concerts concludes a season of spotlighting young international stars

with the performance of dynamic young Spanish violinist Francisco Fullana. Mr. Fullana will join renowned musician Anthony Newman and the Bedford Chamber Ensemble on Wednesday, May 8, at 8:00pm in a gala season finale program which will include compositions by Mozart, Bach and Schubert.

Twenty-two year old Francisco Fullana, born in Palma de Mallorca in Spain, gave his first recital when he was eight, then performed the following year with the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra. At fifteen he made his debut at the National Auditory of Music in Madrid. In 2006 he gave his first recital in New York City and performed on From the Top, on NPR. Mr. Fullana is nationally recognized in Spain where he has performed for the Royal Family as well as on national television and radio.

The program will include Bach’s famous Chaconne for Violin from his Partita No. 2 with a piano accompaniment by Robert Schumann. Bach’s composition is considered one of the most technically and musically challenging pieces for the violin. The program will also include Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in D major, known as the “Turkish” because of an exotic-sounding section in the last movement.

The program concludes with Schubert’s beloved Quintet for Piano and Strings in A, known as the “Trout” because it includes a movement of variations on a song by the composer with that title. This highly tuneful work is somewhat unusual in that it is one of the few classical chamber pieces that includes a double bass part.

Number one on the list of Bedford Magazine’s Fabulous 50 things to see in Bedford, Bedford Chamber Concerts, has played to enthusiastic audiences from throughout the region for over ten years.

BCC concerts take place in the Fellowship Hall of St. Matthew’s Church, 382 Cantitoe Street in Bedford. Wine is served during intermission and is included in the $40 ticket price. Student tickets are available for $10 at the door.
