Fall Colors – Why do they appear, and what do they mean?

The Discovery Center at Ridgefield is hosting a Fall Colors program for all ages on Saturday, October 12th at 1:00 P.M. in Ballard Park on Main Street in Ridgefield.

Autumn has arrived.  As the days get shorter, and the nights get a bit chillier, many things begin to change. The kids go back to school, vacations are over and warm sweaters replace the tee shirts of summer. Trees go through changes as well. Take a tour through beautiful Ballard Park, with local arborist, Tom Reiner, from The Care of Trees, and discover the hidden secrets of how our trees prepare for winter.

Discussions will include the beautiful fall colors of different trees, why the leaves are beginning to drop, and how a tree can survive the approaching cold of winter.

Participants can park in the CVS parking lot on Main Street and meet in the Gazebo of Ballard Park.  Comfortable clothes and shoes for being outside are advised.

Program will be rain or shine!

All ages are welcome.  Members are free, and non-members are $7 per person. Please call 203.438.1063 or visit the DC website www.ridgefielddiscovery.org to make reservations.
