NATURE SERIES PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

(6-week class – 2 sessions available)

Children and parents or caregivers come for an hour of nature fun. Dress for outdoor activity. Except in extreme weather conditions, a portion of each class is spent outdoors. Admittance closes 15 minutes after the start of the program.

PRE-REGISTRATION & PRE-PAYMENT REQUIRED. Tuition per 6-week session—if you join mid-session, rates will be pro-rated. Fees: Members: $50 per child. Non-members: $90 per child.

Wild Encounters Storytime (3-5 years old)

Nature discovery for youngsters, with a parent or caregiver. Enjoy a nature themed story and discover the wonders of nature while exploring fields, forests, or landscaped grounds. Let your imagination run wild!

Mother Nature’s Storytime (2-4 years old)

Join us for a Guided Trail Experience through the woodland forest. Discover who left that track, which tree makes the best animal home, or which mushrooms make the best dinner. Program runs approximately 45 minutes. FREE

WED, NOV 12, 7PM REFRESHMENTS / 7:30PM PROGRAM – SIERRA CLUB- SUSTAINABLE WESTCHESTERWHAT’S THE PLAN FOR GREEN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT? – The Northern Westchester Energy Action Consortium

(NWEAC) and the Southern Westchester Action Consortium (SWEAC) have been blazing new paths toward sustainability by assisting their respective member municipalities in reducing reliance on fossil fuels, adopting sustainable policies and practices, and stimulating new “green” economic activity. These two dynamic organizations have merged to form a new nonprofit entity, Sustainable Westchester. Meet the leaders and learn about initiatives to facilitate regional scale cooperation and turning environmental challenges into opportunities. Program presented in partnership with the Sierra Club Lower Hudson Group; designed for adults and

high school students. FREE and handicapped accessible.

Explore our magical forest trails and have a tea party in our enchanted fairy circle! Make your own nature-inspired fairy wand to take home. Members $5, Non-members $8

BEARFOOT STORYTIME

Join us for storytime, based on our popular Wild Encounters Storytime held weekly on Monday afternoons. This hour long program includes a story, live animals, and a nature-themed activity. Recommended for children ages 2-6. Members $5, Non-members $8

NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT

Celebrate autumn and all of its wonder while honing your wildlife sighting skills! On this naturalist led scavenger hunt, use your ‘eagle eyes’ to find items, roam the trails, and discover nature’s beauty. (Approximate ½ mile hike) Members $5, Non-members $8

FALL DISCOVERY WALK

Join a naturalist to look for fall happenings in our forest. Search for native trees and wildlife along the way. FREE for Members, Non-members $8

Join us for an informative program that allows you to get up close and hands-on with some of the Nature Center’s live animals! What wild fun will you have today? Members $5, Non-members $8

TURKEY SCAVENGER HUNT

Bring your toddlers to our traditional “turkey token” hunt along a woodland trail. After the hunt, all “gobblers” can enjoy snacks and nature crafts. Members $6, Non-members $9. Event held Rain or Shine. No Refunds.

The weather is getting colder and the days are becoming shorter. People adapt to warm houses and grocery store food, but what about the animals? Grab your coat and join us to meet some amazing animals and learn about their cold weather survival skills. Members $5, Nonmembers $8

WHIRLING, TWIRLING, AND FALLING DOWN

When the leaves turn red, orange, brown, and gold we all become children, no matter how old! Join us for some raking, piling, and leaf pile jumping. Learn just what makes leaves turn colors in the fall, and what you can do with your leaves at home to make your yard blossom next spring. Each child makes special leaf art to take home and treasure. Members $5, Non-members $8

The Greenburgh Nature Center is a 33-acre woodland preserve with trails, a pond, gardens, a playground, and outdoor animal exhibits, including a birds of prey aviary. Our indoor exhibits include a live animal museum with over 100 specimens, exhibit areas focusing on nature and the environment, and a greenhouse with botanical exhibits. We offer special programs for groups of all ages on a wide range of environmental topics, camps and birthday parties, either here or at your location. We also have a variety of volunteeropportunities for all ages and skill levels.

The mission of the Greenburgh Nature Center is to offer inspiring, hands-on environmental education experiences, to foster an appreciation of nature, and to promote sustainable practices.

The Nature Center is located at 99 Dromore Road, off Central Park Avenue, in Scarsdale, NY. Parking is free, and handicapped parking is available. The Nature Center’s grounds are open daily dawn to dusk throughout the year. The Center’s indoor exhibits are open daily (except CLOSED Fridays and a few holidays), 9:30AM – 4:30PM on weekdays and 10AM – 4:30PM on weekends.
